JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/4/2007 - Laura Pla, a member of the Union University women's soccer team, has been named the TranSouth Conference and NAIA Region XI Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 2, 2007.
In Union's lone match last week, Pla recorded four saves on her way to her first shutout of the season as Union topped Belhaven College (Miss.) 2-0 on the road. Pla, a 5-foot-11 sophomore from Nashville, has started all three matches for Union this year. She has recorded 14 total saves and has allowed just three total goals.
Union is 2-1 on the season and will open TranSouth Conference play tonight (Tuesday) at 7:00 when the Lady Bulldogs host area rival Bethel College (Tenn.).
