Union Women's Soccer Falls Short in Battle with No. 9 Bethel

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/4/2007 - The Union University Lady Bulldog soccer team came up short in an upset bid of No. 9 Bethel College (Tenn.) in a match at Union's soccer field. Bethel defeated Union 4-0, after leading 1-0 at the half. Union drops to 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in TranSouth play, while Bethel remains undefeated at 3-0 overall and 1-0 in league play.

Union allowed an early goal to Bethel in the seventh minute of play. However, over the next 44 mintues, the two teams would play scoreless soccer. Early in the second half, Bethel posted two goals in a span of two minutes to put the game away. A final goal for Bethel was scored with 10 minute to go.

Florence Iweta score the first goal for Bethel. Leah O'Grady added the final three goals for the Lady Wilcats.

Union goalie Laura Pla, last week's TranSouth and NAIA Player of the Week, recorded 17 saves on the night. Bethel's goalie, Ugo Opara, tallied seven saves in the match on her way to the shutout.

Up next for Union will be another home conference match as the Lady Bulldogs host Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.) on Tuesday, September 11 at 6:00 pm.
