Before Union: Shivers played his high school basketball at Humboldt High School where he led his team to the state tournament in 2005. As a senior, Shivers earned All-District and All-Region honors, while also being named as the Team MVP. He averaged 20.1 points and four steals per game. Shivers was honored by the Jackson Sun as an All-West Tennessee performer.
