Ralph Turner - Head Coach

Ralph Turner is now in his ninth season as the head coach for the Bulldogs. Turner, fresh off his fifth consecutive trip to the NAIA National Tournament, became Union's winningest coach last season with a 79-50 win over conference foe Freed-Hardeman. Record win number 186 in his career put him past Union coaching legend, Jim Swope. Turner's overall coaching record at Union is now 197-82 (.706). The next milestone for Turner will be when he passes his 200th career win early this season.

A 1979 graduate of David Lipscomb University, Turner spent nine seasons as Lipscomb's assistant coach until he took over at Union in the fall of 1994. Turner began his coaching career at the junior high and high school level in Georgia and Tennessee before moving to the collegiate level at Oklahoma Christian.

Turner takes his knowledge of basketball to the national level by serving on the NAIA Championship Tournament Committee that organizes the men's national basketball tournament in St. Louis, MO. Turner also is on the NAIA All-American Committee and the USA Olympic Basketball Committee.

Under the guidance of Turner, summer basketball camps have continued to grow. Through Turner's hard work and dedication, Union has seen over 1,500 boys and girls participate in each of the past four summer camp sessions.

Turner's goal for the men's basketball program is more than concentrating on the score of a game. His desire is to not only see the best Bulldog team Union has ever had, but for those individuals to be the best people Union has ever had as well.

He and wife, Sherrie, have two daughters, Andrea and Alison, ages 16 and 14.

David Niven - Assistant Coach

Niven, a 1996 graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University, begins his sixth season as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs after spending the 1996-97 season as an assistant coach at Oklahoma Baptist. While at Union, the Bulldogs have put together a record of 145-34 (.810) and has been to the NAIA National Tournament in each of his five seasons.

Niven's playing career began as a red-shirt at Ouachita Baptist University. He then transferred to Oklahoma Baptist University to finish out his four-year career. In those four years, Niven became the player with the most wins in school history with a 120-25 record. He also became the first player to help lead the Bison to four consecutive national tournaments and two final-four finishes.

In 1997, while assistant coach at Oklahoma Baptist, Niven received his Master of Education degree from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. He received valuable coaching experience as the Bison went 36-4 and made it to the 1997 NAIA National Championship Finals.

Over the past few seasons, Niven has taken on the majority of the recruiting efforts for the Bulldogs. As a coach, he tries to bring in athletes that will represent Union well on and off the court. Graduating players is his top priority, and being able to have players leave with a diploma is a goal the he has set for each of his players.

Belinda Hannigan - Student Assistant

Belinda Hannigan, a senior at Union, is in her second season as student assistant coach for the Bulldog basketball program. Hannigan is a physical education and health major and she looks forward to her graduation in December of 2003.
