SEASON OUTLOOK

Union University is looking to break their string of runner up finishes over the past three seasons in the TranSouth Conference. A new day is coming in the conference as a new champion will be crowned for the first time in Men's cross country. Berry College has swept the conference title since the TranSouth began in 1996, but they are no longer a part of the conference and the Bulldogs hope to start a winning tradition of their own. The team has finished second behind Berry the previous three seasons and have plans to improve this year.

Chris Winter will lead the Bulldogs as his collegiate career reaches the final stage. Winter was the first male runner to sign with Union and the team hopes to reward his faith in the program with a TranSouth Conference Championship. Winter earned his first trip to the NAIA National Meet last year along with Cameron Groll. Union head coach Gary Johnson says of Winter, "Although it will be sad to see Chris leaving, he represents what is good about college athletics, the way he has grown as a christian young man is very rewarding. My challenge to the other guys is to work hard to send him out with a championship and grow as a team through the journey."

Winter is joined by three other returning runners plus a promising crop of four new guys. Phillip Thompson joins the Bulldogs after a promising high school cross country and track/field career that included a state championship in the 800 meters his junior year. Other new additions included Division I transfer John Fox, freshman Lane Turner, and sophomore Douglas Martin.

This year will be the fourth year of competition for the men's program at Union.
