Before Union: Burkett transferred to Union after one season of softball at the University of Tennessee-Martin. Burkett prepped at Bolton High School where she played four seasons of softball. She helped lead her team to district and region titles from 2003-2006 and a state final appearance as a senior. Burkett hit .486 as a senior and was named team MVP. During her career, she was a three-time Best of the Preps, twice named first team All-District, Best All-Around, Rookie of the Year, and Freshman of the Year.
