Mark Campbell - Head Coach

Mark Campbell begins his fourth year as head coach of the Lady Bulldogs. He is coming off a season in which he lead Union to a seventh straight conference title and a trip to the NAIA National Tournament Final Four. Campbell and the Lady Bulldogs finished the season 35-4 overall and a 13-1 record in the TranSouth Conference.

Campbell spent five seasons as a player for the Lipscomb Bison basketball team and graduated from Lipscomb University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and from Union University in 1996 with a Master of Education.

After red-shirting his freshman season at Lipscomb, Campbell went on to excel in the basketball arena. Campbell currently ranks 12th in all-time scoring at Lipscomb with 1,509 prints. The 724 assists he accumulated during his career places him in the top five at David Lipscomb for career assists. Campbell helped guide the Bisons to five national tournament appearances, a 129-19 four-year record, and a national record of 42 wins in a season.

After college, Campbell joined Union's men's basketball coaching staff as the graduate assistant in 1994 and then became the full time assistant coach in 1996. He worked under the guidance of fellow Lipscomb graduate and current Union men's head coach Ralph Turner for five seasons until being named the new women's basketball coach in 1999. Over the past three seasons as Union's coach, Campbell has been named as the TranSouth Coach of the Year twice (2001, 2002) and has an overall record of 94-17 (.847).

Mark Campbell is married to the former Molly Graves of Jackson. They are the proud parents of their first child, Gray, born on July 10 , 2002.

Katie Woodruff - Assistant Coach

Katie Woodruff is now in her second season with the Lady Bulldogs. She join the Lady Bulldog coaching staff last season from Kansas City. There she worked for K-Life, Inc. on their women’s staff helping to develop female volunteers to effectively disciple small groups.

As a player for John Brown University in Arkansas, she was an All-Conference performer on the court while participated in the Sooner Athletic Conference with NAIA powerhouse teams such as Oklahoma City and Southern Nazarene. After graduating from John Brown University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, Woodruff worked for two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at the College of the Ozarks. In 1998, Woodruff began her graduate work at the University of Arkansas in recreation management. As a graduate assistant, she served as the program coordinator for the school’s “Champions of Character” program which included activities such as leading small discipleship groups and developing character training programs for student athletes. She also became very involved with the Arkansas Athletes Outreach program on campus. In addition to her responsibilities at the university, Woodruff taught physical education to children in kindergarten through fifth grade at a local elementary school.

With extensive experience in the game of basketball as a player and coach and the recipient of several honors, Woodruff believes she has all of the qualifications necessary for her new job, not only because of her many years of experience, but due to her passion for working with student athletes.

Brandon Wood - Graduate Assistant

Brandon is back for his second season as a graduate assistant for Union.

Prior to rejoining the Lady Bulldog coaching staff in 2001, Wood was a coach and teacher in his hometown of Franklin, Tennessee. During the 1999-2000 season, Wood taught Pre-Kindergarten – fourth grade Physical Education at Battle Ground Academy and also coached the 7th and 8th grade girls to a 16-3 season.

Wood played three seasons for the Union during his college career and was a student assistant coach for one year. He participated in one national tournament as a player and one as a coach. During his playing years at Union, Wood averaged 2.3 points per game and shot over 43% (56-130) from the three-point line. His best season coming in 1996-97 when he shot 22-42 from behind the arc for a .524 shooting percentage. Wood graduated from Union in 1999 with a degree in Physical Education and Health and is currently working towards his Masters degree in Education.

In high school, Wood was selected All-State his junior and senior seasons and also honored as the MVP of the state tournament his senior season. He averaged 18 points and 8 assists per game.

Brandon is the son of Julie Barrett and Cooper Wood.

Cherry Johnson - Student Assistant

Johnson is in her third season as a student assistant for the Lady Bulldogs. She is a junior Christian Studies major and is expecting to graduate in May of 2003.

A graduate of Coring High School in Corinth, Mississippi, Johnson now resides in Memphis, Tennessee. She is the daughter of Richard and Debra Johnson.

Tonya Tuggles - Student Assistant

Tuggles joins the Union coaching staff after completing four great season's with the Lady Bulldogs. she is finishing her degree in Education this year and looks to remain with Union as a graduate assistant next season.

During her career at Union, Tuggles played in 139 games for Union and averaged over seven points per game. She maintained a field goal percentage of 50% and shot a very good 73% from the free throw line. As a freshman for the Lady Bulldogs, she was named the TranSouth Conference Newcomer of the Year in 1999.

Tuggles is from Bradford, Tennessee and is the daughter of Georgia B. Tuggles.
