The 2004 season for Union Cross Country promises to be full of challenges as the Lady Bulldogs enter the season as the defending TranSouth Conference Champions for the first time in the history of the program. With Berry and Lee leaving the conference, many teams will be vying for the top spot and the Lady Bulldogs are determined to maintain their standing as champions.
Janelle Campbell (Royer) and Jill Konkol lead a talented team of eight returning runners. Campbell and Konkol earned trips to the NAIA National Meet last year and hope to repeat the accomplishment. The goal of the team will be to earn their first team birth to the national meet. A team win in the NAIA Region XI Meet will give the team the automatic berth. Newcomer Candace Cross will add depth to the top portion of the lineup while sharing her athletic skills with the Lady Bulldog Softball team.
Union head coach Gary Johnson states about his team, "It is going to be tough replacing six seniors after this year. These girls have been faithful to Jesus, each other, and the cross country program. They represent the first class to stay together four years and the accomplishments they've earned are well deserved. I feel confident to say each of these young women will make the world around them a better place."
