Head Coach Sandra WilliamsUnion University's Women's Tennis Coach, Sandra Williams, has been a member of the coaching staff at Union since 1983. Coach Williams graduated from Union University in 1965 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree, and from the University of Tennessee in 1966 with a Master's of Science Degree. Coach Williams also received a Master's in Religious Education from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1971. Over the past 16 seasons, Coach Williams has a record of 249-106 (.701). Williams will also serve as the President of the NAIA Coaches Association. She served as vice president for the past year and secretary in 2000. Williams is honored to have the confidence of the other coaches and feels this is a great way to serve the NAIA and also be a leader in the organization. “This is a chance for me to give back to the tennis coaches and the NAIA”. Williams goes on to say, “I’ll be able to help with the national tournament and be the representative for the NAIA at many tennis gatherings across the nation.” Last season, Williams led Union to yet another successful season in women’s tennis. The Lady Bulldogs finished as Co-Champions in the TranSouth Conference and placed second in the conference tournament. Williams’ squad made the final four of the NAIA Region XI tournament and finished the season ranked No. 22 in the NAIA. In 2002, her team was selected as an NAIA Women’s Tennis Scholar Team. This is awarded to the teams that have a combined GPA of over 3.0. Union has a 3.03 team GPA. In 2000, Sandra Williams was named the ITA NAIA National Coach of the Year while leading the Lady Bulldogs to their latest trip to the national tournament and a final ranking of #8 in the NAIA. Union's doubles team finished ranked #9 nationally in 2000.
Whatever the challenges, their coach joins all the Lady Bulldog Tennis players in striving to be the best-ever Union University tennis team and to be all that the Lord wants them to be at all times.
