Learning #ThroughGlass: An Exploration of Google Glass for Education

Dr. Kevin S. Trowbridge wearing Google GlassConsider how emerging technologies could potentially change the way we see teaching and learning. While the fundamentals of education remain steadfast, innovative educators are constantly monitoring the dynamic communication landscape for tools that may enhance their educational practice. This presentation will showcase one of Google’s developing technologies—Google Glass. After an introduction to Glass, we’ll look at how Glass Explorers are using it for educational practice. We’ll be challenged to consider the pedagogical implications of Glass in the learning space. Some attendees will even have the opportunity to experiment with Glass during the session.

About the Presenter
Union alumnus Kevin S. Trowbridge, Ph.D., became a Glass Explorer last year and has been experimenting with Google’s wearable technology for nearly four months. Dr. Trowbridge is an educator, a communication strategist, and a researcher. He is an assistant professor of public relations at Belmont University (Nashville, Tenn.), where he teaches theory, research, and skill-based communication courses. He enjoys researching social media and new technology’s impact on communication and culture. Dr. Trowbridge is currently collaborating on a research project on the use of Google Glass in the classroom.
