Phi Alpha Theta Initiates New Members and Elects Officers for 2013-2014

The Delta-Psi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta held its spring plenary meeting on February 19, 2013, where it initiated new members and elected officers for 2013-2014. Twenty-three people attended the meeting, which was presided over by President Jeffrey Lewoczko.

Chapter Vice President Mary Ellen Poe conducted the initiation ceremony for Union’s four new members, and President Jeffrey presented them with their certificates of membership. The inductees included Colby Benefield, Grace Morriss, Shelby Pace, and Luke Trammell.

During the business meeting that ensued, President Jeffrey made several announcements about upcoming spring activities. He indicated that Patricia Dawson, Mary Ellen Poe, and he would be presenting papers at the Tennessee Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference at Belmont University on February 23. He also mentioned the chapter’s annual Franco-American confection and bake sale on March 20, a possible trip to the state capitol on April 1, the Phi Alpha Theta Red T-shirt Spirit Day on April 15, the history awards banquet on May 2, and the annual Phi Alpha Theta cookout on May 10.

Dr. Stephen Carls, the chapter faculty advisor, followed by reading excerpts from a proposed State of Tennessee proclamation that will recognize Union’s Delta-Psi Chapter for its 60th anniversary in 2013 and its 10 straight Best Chapter Awards since 2003. Professor Carls also talked about the upcoming Tennessee regional conference and especially emphasized the Phi Alpha Theta Biennial Convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in January, 2014.

The final agenda item was the election of officers for 2013-2014. The students elected to office next year were: Gracie Wise, president; Charles Snow, vice president; Heather Stricklin, secretary; Allie Durham, senator; and Colton Gebben, senator.

After the meeting adjourned, members enjoyed refreshments and informal conversation together.
