Phi Alpha Theta Has Fall Initiation/Plenary Meeting

Sep 16, 2013

Union’s Delta-Psi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society had its fall initiation/plenary meeting on September 16, 2013. Chapter Vice President Charles Snow conducted the initiation ceremony and President Gracie Wise presented the inductees with their membership certificates. Faith Bagley, Jessica Hatfield, and Laura Kay Richardson were the new initiates. Dr. Stephen Carls read a congratulations statement from Dr. Graydon Tunstall, the executive director of Phi Alpha Theta, to conclude this portion of the evening’s agenda.

Wise conducted the plenary meeting that followed. She talked about the upcoming “Racing So They Can Ride” running event on September 21, and asked for volunteers to serve as ushers at Carls-Schwerdfeger History Lecture on the evening of October 1. Other upcoming events that she mentioned included: the chapter’s 60th anniversary luncheon on October 30; the Phi Alpha Theta/History Department community service project at Historic Hollywood Cemetery on November 5; the French Christmas dinner at Dr. Carls’s home on December 6; and the Phi Alpha Theta Biennial Convention in January, 2014. Carls indicated that the mayors of the City of Jackson and Madison County would attend the October 30 luncheon as would Union’s President David S. Dockery, Executive Vice President for Academic Administration Gene Fant and Phi Alpha Theta Executive Director Tunstall. He also talked at length about the society’s biennial convention in Albuquerque and strongly encouraged members to present papers there. The meeting ended with refreshments.
