Cap and Gown

Graduates may obtain their cap and gown from Herff Jones by ordering on-line or calling 1-800-837-4235.

Men, Please Notice:

With your academic dress you should wear a solid color shirt, dark tie, dark shoes and dark trousers.

Women, Please Notice:

With your academic dress you should wear a solid color dress and dark (preferably black) shoes. Jewelry should be kept to an absolute minimum (no dangling earrings please.)

It is not necessary to wear the white collar that comes with the gown.

Men and Women:

The academic cap should be worn flat on the head (horizontal with the ground,) with the tassel on your right side until the diploma is received.

** Graduate students do not move their tassels. Graduates wear their tassels on the left.

Tassel/Hood Color

Graduates are responsible for making sure they have the correct color tassel/hood. If you do not receive the correct color, please contact Herff Jones immediately. The following is a list of hood and tassel colors which represent the different degrees offered by Union University:
