Barefoots Joe: Ben Sollee with Nathan Reich

March 21, 2014: 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Barefoot Student Union Building, Barefoots Joe

Trained as a classical cellist, Ben Sollee was schooled in other traditions at home, and his music now blends folk, bluegrass, jazz, and R&B into complex arrangements that classical enthusiasts and folk-lovers alike have celebrated. NPR's All Things Considered called his 2008 debut album, Learning to Bend, "an inspired collection of acoustic, folk and jazz-flavored songs, filled with hope and the earnest belief that the world is good." Before this album, Sollee performed as part of Abigail Washburn's Sparrow Quartet on a world tour with Bela Fleck. He has collaborated with My Morning Jacket, played the historic Carnegie Hall, performed at TEDx, and been recognized by NPR as a top 10 up-and-coming artist. During 2014, he is touring and preparing for the release of a new record later this year. Nashville artist, Nathan Reich, will be opening. https://soundcloud.com/bensollee/sets/learning-to-bend www.bensollee.com
