JACKSON, Tenn. – April 11, 2006 – Paul R. Corts, the newly elected president of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, will be the speaker at Union University’s spring graduation ceremony May 20.
“I have known Dr. Corts for more than 15 years and have observed with admiration his excellent leadership abilities,” Union President David S. Dockery said. “He is a man of much wisdom and godly character, a devoted churchman and a brilliant leader. We are honored to have him as our graduation speaker this year.”
Corts has served as assistant attorney general for administration for the U.S. Department of Justice since 2002 and will take over as CCCU president in June. He will become the fifth CCCU president – replacing Robert Andringa, who is retiring – and the Union graduation will be Corts’ first speaking engagement since accepting the position.
Prior to his work at the Department of Justice, Corts served as president of Palm Beach Atlantic University for nearly 12 years. He also served as president of Wingate University in North Carolina, and he has held administrative and teaching positions at Oklahoma Baptist University and Western Kentucky University.
Corts holds degrees from Georgetown College and Indiana University. He and his wife, Diane, are the parents of three grown children.
The graduation ceremony will start at 6 p.m. on the Great Lawn on the west end of Union’s campus.
