JACKSON, Tenn. – Aug. 11, 2006 – The TranSouth Athletic Conference has selected Union University sports information director Steven Aldridge as the 2005-06 Sports Information Director of the Year.
“Steven Aldridge is one of the finest young men in the country doing the job of sports information,” Union athletic director David Blackstock said. “He is knowledgeable, organized and committed to doing a great job in everything that he does. Steven’s greatest attribute is his tireless work ethic and his dedication to excellence.”
Aldridge received the award at the conference’s annual meeting Aug. 1 at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn. The conference instituted the award this year to recognize the efforts of sports information directors in promoting the teams of the TranSouth.
Aldridge, a 1998 Union graduate of Union University, has been Union’s sports information director since 2000. He previously worked for the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx.
He is a 1994 graduate of Myrtle High School in Myrtle, Miss.
Aldridge’s publications have won several awards, including a first-place finish in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ Web site contest. He serves the TranSouth as sports information director for baseball, softball and cross country and produces a weekly release for all sports.
Aldridge and his wife Stacy have one daughter, Haley.
Due to inclement weather, all Union campuses will be closed on Thursday, March 5, with all day classes canceled.
A decision on evening classes at Jackson and Germantown will be made by noon on Thursday. Hendersonville evening classes are canceled.
The wellness center will open at 10 a.m. and close at 8 p.m., and the aquatic center will be open from 1-3 p.m.
