Carrington in Las Vegas for Miss America competition

JACKSON, Tenn.Jan. 21, 2009 – Union University student Ellen Carrington, the reigning Miss Tennessee, is competing in the Miss America Pageant this week in Las Vegas.

The pageant will air Saturday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. Central time on The Learning Channel. On Jan. 23 at 9 p.m., TLC will air the final episode of “Countdown to the Crown,” a program which follows 52 state title holders as they live together on the Queen Mary luxury ocean liner and face a series of team and individual competitions to help them prepare for the pageant.

After the final episode of “Countdown to the Crown,” viewers will have the chance to select four of the Miss America contestants for the top 15 pageant candidates. Voting will be conducted via text messaging and at www.tlc.com/missamerica.

Carrington, 22, a Union senior and Jackson native, won the Miss Tennessee crown June 21 in Jackson.
