JACKSON, Tenn. – March 5, 2010 – Acclaimed author and Boston University religion professor Stephen Prothero will speak at Union University March 10 as part of the ongoing Union Forum luncheon lecture series.
Prothero is the author of the bestselling book, “Religious Literacy: What Every American Needs to Know -- And Doesn’t,” which inspired a Time magazine cover story and has landed him on several talk shows such as The Daily Show and The O’Reilly Factor. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree in religion from Harvard and is a frequent guest on National Public Radio.
He is also the author of “American Jesus: How the Son of God Became a National Icon” and has written for Salon.com and The New York Times Magazine.
Prothero will address the topic “Religious Literacy” in his lecture.
For the past 10 years, Union University has hosted some of the nation’s top speakers to address important political, social, business and religious topics. Previous speakers have included Norah O’Donnell, Juan Williams, Robert George, Clarence Page, Morton Kondracke and Margaret Carlson, among others. In September, BBC correspondent Katty Kay was the featured guest for Union Forum.
