JACKSON, Tenn.Aug. 11, 2010 – Union University’s student dining hall has been renamed the Brewer Dining Hall in honor of Maggie Nell Brewer, Union’s longtime vice president for student affairs.

“Maggie Nell Brewer is certainly worthy of praise,” Union President David S. Dockery said Aug. 11 at a luncheon celebrating the new name. “We are pleased to introduce students to her great legacy in student life, and we are thankful for her lifetime of service to Union University.”

Brewer was the first female senior administrator in Union’s history. She served in various student affairs roles from 1965 until her retirement in 1995.

“I am honored to have this dining facility named for me,” Brewer said. “I have been amazed at what has happened at Union over the past 15 years. My 30 years here were really a delight.”

Union trustees unanimously approved the renaming, which Dockery said is part of Union’s efforts to reconnect Union University with its history and legacy.
