Union University will offer marriage course in February

JACKSON, Tenn.Feb. 13, 2002 – Union University will begin a five-week marriage enrichment and preparation course Thursday, Feb. 21.

A class of eight to ten couples will pioneer an important course for engaged and married couples designed to help avoid the tragedy of divorce and is being sponsored by Union’s Department of Family Studies, the School of Christian Studies, Counseling Services and Campus Ministries.

“With the way our society is so divorce-prone, we want to give our students the best preparation and the best chance to make it,” explained Naomi Larsen, chair of the Department of Sociology and Family Studies.

In response to her passion for the development of healthy, stable marriages, Larsen will contribute to the team-teaching along with David Gushee of Christian Studies, Jay Ridenour of Campus Ministries, and Paul Deschenes of Student Services. Topics will include such potential pitfalls of marriage as communication skills, conflict resolution, assertiveness and active listening, financial management, and intimacy and sexuality.

The cost is $40 and classes will begin at 7 p.m. For more information about this class or future classes, contact Naomi Larsen at (731) 661-5390.
