JACKSON, Tenn. – Feb. 12, 2002– Linda Barber, associate professor of nursing at Union University, was the recent recipient of the university’s Honorary Alumni Award at the 2002 Homecoming Alumni Awards Luncheon held Feb. 9. A member of the Union University faculty for 27 years, Barber has also served in critical care units, emergency rooms and doctors’ offices.
Receiving her bachelor of science degree and master of science in curriculum and instruction degree from the University of Memphis, Barber has also served as a volunteer for many programs, including Habitat for Humanity, Jackson Area Hospice and the American Cancer Society. She has also helped train volunteers for the Jackson Area Hospice. Her services at Union include being a member on several committees, such as the Athletic Committee and the Student Aid Committee. What is most notable about her though is her enthusiasm and support for the athletes, showing up to almost every game to show her Union spirit.
“Linda Barber is outstanding in her genuine support of students,” said Susan Jacob, dean of Union’s School of Nursing. “She is committed to taking an active part in their lives.”
The recipients of the Honorary Alumni Award are chosen for their outstanding service to the university but must not have attended Union University.
