JACKSON, Tenn. – July 15, 2002 – Union University was one of 49 schools to have its local Alpha Chi chapter, the national college honor society, honored by receiving a Star Chapter Award for 2000-01.
“This recognition of Union’s Alpha Chi Chapter is a genuine honor for the entire university,” said Union President David S. Dockery. “It is a testimony to Union’s outstanding students and the university’s commitment to academic excellence.”
Union’s Tennessee Beta chapter is the second oldest in the state. Membership is open to approximately the top ranking 10% of the junior and senior classes. A Star Chapter must fulfill the following criteria: have a sponsor and a student at the national/regional convention, have at least one student presentation at the convention, have a Benedict Fellowship and/or Nolle Scholarship nominee, sponsor one scholarly program on campus, induct and register members and file an annual chapter report.
Alpha Chi has chapters on more than 300 campuses in 45 states and Puerto Rico. An honor society for all academic fields, it is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies.
