The Beta Tau Chapter of Alpha Tau Omega was chartered at Union University on February 28, 1894. The national organization was founded 29 years earlier at Lexington, Virginia, by Otis Allen Glazebrook, Alfred Marshall, and Erskine Mayo Ross. Beta Tau is now the oldest chapter never to close its doors.
Alpha Tau Omega was the first national fraternity founded after the Civil War. Its purpose was to unite men of the North and South in order to form a bond of permanent peace. The fraternity is founded on the principles of Jesus Christ and his teachings.
