Job Description: Children’s Director/Assistant Recreational Director

Job Title: Children’s Director/Assistant Recreational Director (Nursery thru 6th Grade)

Reports to: Pastor and Associate Pastor

Position Type / Hours: This position is classified as a full-time (ministerial) position. The expected work schedule is flexible; being dependent upon seasonal activities and administrative needs of the church. The pay type is a “salary rate” to include a minimum of 40 hours in a given week.

Purpose of Position: This position oversees all activities of the children aging from bed babies thru sixth grade. This includes oversight and coordination of the Nursery, Children’s Church and all other planned activities related to the children of First Baptist Church Hickory Withe, Inc. In this extremely rewarding position, you will assume ultimate responsibility for creating and maintaining an educational, loving and nurturing environment for our children and their families. This position also includes assisting Church staff/volunteers with organizing, coordinating, and conducting various sports and recreational activities for Church members and the surrounding community.

Qualifications: • Strong organizational and communication skills. Leadership skills are essential due to the intense recruitment demands related to volunteers. Candidate must demonstrate skills in establishing effective relationships with staff, parents, and children. • Bachelor’s degree in Child Ministry (or currently pursuing such degree) . Although not a requirement, the ideal candidate will have 3-5 years’ experience relating to Children’s Education/Ministry. • Applicant’s statement of faith must be in accordance with the Baptist Faith and Message doctrine and teaching and, likewise, appropriate personal behavior.

Primary Job Duties / Responsibilities: • Develop, manage and direct the Children’s Ministry to effectively create a child-appropriate worship environment. • Lead, oversee and administer the Preschool Ministry, ages 3 - Kindergarten. • Create and implement dynamic children’s worship for 1st - 6th graders. • Direct, implement and guide Sunday and Wednesday night children’s programs (i.e. Awana’s program) • Oversee and direct Nursery Staff. • Manage volunteer staff and processes to facilitate safe and nurturing environment for children. • Establish and implement policies and procedures as necessary within the ministry area to facilitate a safe and nurturing environment. • Build and maintain quality relationships with children, parents and ministry staff (paid and lay persons). • Serve as a Director of the church as well as heading the children-related committees. • Expand ways to grow the ministry, i.e., puppet ministry, providing child services on Wednesday and Sunday nights. • Lead, oversee and administrate special children’s events: Vacation Bible School, Easter Egg Hunt, Fall Festival, etc. • Aid in the planning, coordinating, conducting and evaluating of the sports and recreational activities of the church. • Work with the nominating committee to recruit and enlist volunteers for the recreational programs. • Aide in the periodical review and evaluation of all recreational activities • Participate in a regular visitation program of existing and prospective church families (particularly related to families with children involved in the Children’s Ministry). • Cooperate with local church and community organizations to plan, organize, and initiate community recreational activities • Effectively reach the un-churched in our community while offering members of our church body an opportunity to grow in their walk with Jesus. • Assist the church staff in planning and presenting the Children’s Ministry and Recreation Ministry budget and in overseeing the expenditures of budgets in these areas. • Plan, coordinate, conduct, and provide leadership for all church training classes for Children Ministry and Recreational Ministry volunteers. • …and any other duties assigned by the Pastor and/or Associate Pastor.
