Director of Children and Family Ministries at First Baptist Church, Troy

Troy First Baptist Church is seeking a Director of Children and Family Ministries:

Purpose: Lead and advance a ministry where children (birth thru 5th grade) and their families of First Baptist Church and the surrounding community are living lives for and with Jesus Christ.

Measurable Criteria: Agreement with our church’s vision and the Baptist Faith and Message (2000). At least a Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university with formal training preferred in either the fields of Child Development, Education, Family or Leadership. At least three years of experience leading a growing Children and Family Ministry preferred. Experience recruiting, developing and equipping volunteers. Communicate effectively the Gospel of Jesus Christ by a variety of means to a variety of audiences. A solid understanding of the ORANGE family - centered ministry preferred, but not essential.

Observable Qualifications: A leader with a strong walk and personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Approachable, with the ability to foster strong relationships with parents/families. Teachable, with a desire to grow in his/her faith and abilities and humble, able to set up leaders to lead. A highly energetic self starter, motivated and organized with a pastoral spirit. Has a passion for children and family ministry: Love Christ and Love Kids. Understands children and family culture today with a desire to become personally invested in the membership of First Baptist Church. Strong verbal, written and technological communication skills. Team player with effective relational skills. Gifted at "hanging out with children and parents" while maintaining appropriate boundaries of ministry and able to have fun in a setting full of enthusiastic children. Able to engineer the logistics and implement a safe environment for all children’s events. Able to laugh and pray with, instruct and converse with, encourage and walk alongside parents in and out of the church setting.

Responsibilities: Recruit and train volunteers. (currently over 60) Consistently communicate with families, church staff, volunteers and congregation. Lead and execute weekly ministry activities with a continuity between Sunday morning and Wednesday night. Equip parent(s) to be the "Spiritual Leaders" of their kids. Manage ministry budget, oversee preschool ministry. Work with volunteers in conducting large outreach experiences including, but not limited to: Vacation Bible School (90+ volunteers and 150+ children); Fall Festival; Christmas and Easter Worship Services. Develop and cultivate a relationship with kids through visiting and getting to know them on "their turf". This includes weekly lunchroom visits, sporting events, etc. Serve as an active member of First Baptist Church staff and congregation. Desired Deliverables in 3-5 Years: Design and lead a children and family ministry for the future. Parents drawn to the First Baptist Church Community because of what God is doing in the lives of their children. Children and families making commitments to living lives for Jesus Christ.

Thoughts and Expectations: Work under the direction of the Lead Pastor. Always be sensitive to the needs of the church; calendar planning, worship schedule, and the overall purpose and direction of the church. We function as a team. Whenever something needs to be done we roll up our sleeves and work together until it is done. We should be the first to arrive and the last to leave an event.
