Keystone Program

Parents Monthly Issue - November 2013

November update

We are mere weeks away from the end of this semester! Although the time is short, the semester is still packed with activity.

Last month, Union hosted our 16th annual scholarship banquet, inviting Dr. Ben Carson to speak. Dr. Carson, a renowned pediatric neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins, graciously spoke to our Keystone students for over half an hour prior to the banquet. This was an opportunity of a lifetime for our students, and we were so honored to spend that time with him. To read more about Dr. Carson’s banquet address, check out the Union news release: http://www.uu.edu/events/scholarshipbanquet/.

On November 5, the Union community with participate in our annual Campus and Community service day. As a way to give back to the Jackson community, our faculty, staff, and students participate in service projects on campus and throughout the city of Jackson. Keystone students have participated in a variety of projects over the years, including volunteering with J Crib Urban Ministries and the Dream Center. This year, our students will be volunteering at the Jackson Center for Independent Living. They will be building accessibility ramps for individuals in need. Be sure to talk to your students about this wonderful service opportunity!

Priority registration for the Winter and Spring semesters will begin at 12:00 a.m. on November 14. Prior to this date, Keystone students will be meeting with their major advisors in order to complete a Keystone-provided form, which will detail which classes their advisors recommend for next semester. Following those meetings, students will then meet with their Keystone counselors to confirm class choices and to be cleared for registration. The Keystone counselors will detail for the students exactly what steps they will need to take in order to register for classes. Any questions can be directed to Sherry Tignor: stignor@uu.edu.

We pray that you and your family have a blessed November and enjoy a wonderful time of thanksgiving together.
