The MTR believes that the poor condition of urban education is the greatest social justice and civil rights issue in our country. Therefore, the MTR is a call to Christians to consider urban education as a valid response to the gospel. Our program is a 12-month teacher preparation program that offers our Residents a Masters in Urban Education from Union Universtiy and an entire year of exposure as a co-teacher in an urban classroom assigned to an excellent urban educator. We provide housing, tuition to the masters program, a $12,000 stipend and access to health benefits. In return, we ask the Residents to commit to three years of teaching in a Memphis urban classroom. We offer programs for both elementary and secondary education for either education or non-education majors.
