Chaney will receive the NCTE Distinguished Service Award on November 21 at the Council’s Annual Convention in Washington, D.C. In relation to her recognition, Dr. Chaney states, “In the early 90s, one of my graduate professors suggested that his students should become members of the professional learning organizations in our chosen academic fields.  I complied by joining the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).  Through the years, I have been eager to help the Council capture best pedagogical practices across the tiers, identify current trends that inform our educational philosophies, and participate in significant dialogue about how to proceed.  Serving as the local chair for two NCTE Annual Conventions at the Opryland Hotel (1998 and 2006) enhanced my professional life enormously.  I am grateful to the NCTE for marvelous learning opportunities and for this award.”

Union University’s College of Education and Human Studies is extremely proud of Chaney’s recognition.  The honor highlights her service and dedication to Education, reflecting the caliber of other service-minded faculty at Union University.  To learn more about Union’s School of Education and how to transition to a career in Education, please visit Union’s Master of Arts in Education (M.A.Ed.) degree website: http://www.uu.edu/academics/graduate/maed/ .
