Cybersecurity

The Computer Science department is pleased to announce the launch of the Cybersecurity program at Union University. This program includes both a major and a minor. Our goal is to develop a program that will provide a world class Cybersecurity education with a Christian foundation. Students will learn the what, when, why, and how of Cybersecurity; and be able to materially contribute on their first day at work. Our goal is for them to be a beacon based on their work ethic, motivations, and decisions made in their position.

The program is built on many years of industry experience along with industry standards and certifications. The Cybersecurity major is a large major of 61hrs and does not have a minor requirement due to its size. The major includes a foundation of Computer Science courses and a broad range of Cybersecurity disciplines. We believe that the only way to really know how to secure something is to know how it works (or should work). Our goal is for a graduate to know the foundations of Cybersecurity across the eight disciplines of the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification. They can enter a specialization as desired after completion and also have a solid understanding of how that specialization fits into the overall world of Cybersecurity.

Some of the unique classes in the Cybersecurity program are the Data Analytics and Data Visualization courses. These courses are co-listed with the McAfee School of Business and are intended to help bridge the worlds of both business and security while teaching students how to produce accurate and meaningful analysis; along with how to use visualizations to tell the story to effect change.
