Palmer Bell ('21)

Palmer Bell "Union challenged me academically more than any other well known Engineering school. I believe Union prepared me to encounter all types of problems, whether that be academically or personally, and process them with a strong spiritual and practical understanding. Often, I have people ask where I attended college and praise Union for preparing young individuals to act respectful and professional in today's modern world."

Palmer Bell ('21), Technology Consultant, Smith Seckman Reid, Inc.

Chris Love ('15)

Chris Love "Union engineering prepared me to face and solve the problems that challenge me in the workforce. Our teachers encouraged us to seek and learn, and they continued widening our own understanding by bringing speakers involved in our field. This strong teaching and encouragement has led me to the discovery and joy I have in my work."

Chris Love ('15), Electrical Product Engineer, Schneider Electric, Winston-Salem, NC

Chelsea Johnson ('16)

Chelsea Johnson Chelsea Johnson said engineering allows to her use her love of physics and math to solve real world problems. Johnson graduated from Union in 2016 with a degree in mechanical engineering and is pursuing her Ph.D. in aerospace engineering at Georgia Tech.

"I had considered a lot of different fields," she said. "But I knew I loved physics, I knew I loved math and I knew I wanted to do something that could be able to practically help people and share the gospel through my profession."

Chelsea Johnson ('16), Ph.D. student in aerospace engineering, Georgia Tech

Erin Picard ('16)

Erin Picard Erin Picard, a 2016 engineering graduate, said Union taught her to strive for excellence in all her work.

"My career is my mission field," Picard said. "Our work will affect many others, and as an engineer I want to strive to give customers exceptional work because I want to show the love of Christ through my work."

Emory Craft ('21)

Emory Craft "Union's academic rigor challenged me daily. Although the coursework was demanding, the value of the learning experience justified the effort. Each class encouraged me to think creatively and outside the box. These problem-solving skills have proven invaluable in my current role at General Motors, where I navigate a fast-paced environment requiring instant solutions to emerging challenges. My engineering education instilled the ability to think quickly and analyze potential solutions efficiently."

Emory Craft ('21), Quality Manager of Global Show Vehicles, General Motors

Zachary Benson ('17)

Zachary Benson "When I was looking for an engineering program, I was looking for somewhere that was Christ-centered, ABET accredited, and academically accomplished. The Union engineering department is all those things and more. The thorough and well-rounded curriculum has given me a solid foundation in my field of choice, but it was engaged and attentive faculty who inspired me to pursue a career in engineering."

Zachary Benson ('17), Automations Specialist, Walker Industrial, LLC, Dallas, TX

Jeremiah Murila ('16)

Jeremiah Murila Jeremiah Murila, a 2016 engineering graduate, said the engineering program at Union laid a foundation for him to think critically and grow in new environments.

Murila initially became interested in engineering because of a fascination with cars. This led him to the mechanical side of engineering, but as he got into the program, he found more interest in electrical engineering and chose that as his emphasis. Now he works as an architectural engineering designer at H&M Construction Co., designing structures for warehouses and manufacturing facilities.

Idrees Hamzeh ('10)

Operations Manager at EnergySolutions

One aspect about Union's Engineering Department that I believe is very important is what I can call the Support System. The fact that even though there are designated Office Hours, but still professors at Union were always there for those who were seeking help or answers, left a tremendous impact on my learning process. This, to me, goes beyond mere QA sessions. It entails a lot of the honest claim that students are a priority for the Engineering faculty at Union. It goes beyond finding a way to solve a stubborn textbook H.W. problem. It proceeds, if sought, to cover real life examples, most importantly career nature/situations/needs topped with some guidance on what it takes to make right choices and moves in that regard.

I left Union equipped with a good deal of tools that allow me to make career choices based on an earned level of confidence in my engineering knowledge. That confidence did not come from void; it is the result of hard work, coupled with the input of the Support System mentioned above.

Engineering student should rest assured that help is always there. They will always find the faculty ready to even put their lunch away and provide what is within reach.
