Union’s Delta-Psi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society celebrated its 12th straight Best Chapter Award and its 61st birthday with a homemade pizza party on October 17, 2014, at Dr. Stephen Carls’s home. A display table of congratulations contained the Best Chapter Award certificate and photos of Phi Alpha Theta members from the 2013-2014 winning team. The birthday celebration highlighted the Delta-Psi chapter’s official chartering on October 17, 1953. Charles Snow, the chapter vice president in 2013-2014, represented last year’s Delta-Psi officers at the party. There were 27 people at the event, which took place on a beautiful fall evening.
One task that Phi Alpha Theta members set aside time for at the party was to browse through publishers’ catalogs and to recommend history books for purchase with the chapter’s $250 Best Chapter Award prize money. The books that the chapter buys will be placed in Union’s Emma Waters Summar Library.
In addition to several kinds of pizzas, menu items included a tossed salad, a uniquely decorated birthday cake, homemade pumpkin cookies, and candy corn. A souvenir Peeps Halloween packet was given to attendees as they departed.
