Feb 24, 2015 - Union’s Delta-Psi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta held its spring plenary meeting and initiation on February 24, 2015. Delta-Psi President Faith Bagley opened the meeting by introducing the incoming Phi Alpha Theta members. She then discussed the chapter’s list of activities for the spring semester and passed out sign-up sheets for the society’s Franco-American Confection and Bake Sale on March 18. Dr. Stephen Carls, the chapter’s faculty advisor, mentioned the national Phi Alpha Theta prizes and scholarships for which Delta-Psi chapter members can apply, and he encouraged students to consider participating in the society’s biennial convention in Orlando in January, 2016. He also talked about Charlotte Peddy Pedersen, who was the first Delta-Psi member to attend a biennial convention; she traveled by bus from Memphis to Los Angeles for the society’s 1954 meeting and then returned home by plane. Both forms of commercial transportation were firsts for her.
Vice President Hannah Jones led the initiation ceremony. Seven students were inducted, including Hannah Conway, Devin Dean, Ashton Hostetler, Kayla Ketner, Emily Littleton, Hollie Wilson, and Olivia Winters. Bagley gave them their certificates of membership as they came forward for the initiation ritual.
The final item on the meeting agenda was the election of chapter officers for 2015-2016. The following students were voted into office: Nick Hancock, president; Allen Bradley, vice president; Hollie Wilson, secretary; Devin Dean and Stephen Lewoczko, senators.
Attendees enjoyed homemade chocolate chip cookies and lemon cookies, along with water, Coca Cola, and Sprite, during and after the meeting.
