Mar 14, 2015 - A group from Union’s Delta-Psi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society attended the 28th Annual Jackson Old Hickory Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast at Andrew Jackson Elementary School on March 14, 2015. The 12 participants from Union had the opportunity to meet both Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist and mayoral candidate Lowe Finney at the breakfast. Glen Vanderford, former governor of Rotary International District 6760 in Tennessee, greeted the group on behalf of the Old Hickory Rotary Club members.
Money raised from the pancake breakfasts goes to support several local programs. One of the club’s educational endeavors involves the awarding of a $1000 scholarship to a graduating senior at each of the eight Jackson-area high schools. Another club-sponsored program consists of giving Thanksgiving baskets to more than 250 local families. The Rotary club also uses breakfast proceeds to support the Madison County Imagination Library program, the Madison Haywood Developmental Center, Youth Town, and the studies of an international student at a Jackson-area high school for one year.
