May 8, 2015 - The history department recognized its spring graduates – both history majors and Phi Alpha Theta members – at the 23rd Annual Phi Alpha Theta/History Department Cookout at Dr. Stephen Carls’s home on May 8, 2015. The students honored included Faith Bagley, Sarah Carroll, Hunter Hawes, Hannah Jones, Kenan Keller, Kayla Ketner, Bree McCuin, and Kensie Zills. All are members of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society except Keller. In addition, the chapter celebrated history alumna Caitlin Roach’s completion of her MBA at Union this spring and Dr. Keith Bates’ promotion from associate professor to professor of history. Thirty-five people participated in the year-end event.
There were numerous food items on the menu. Meat offerings consisted of pulled pork Bar-B-Q, dry rub baby back ribs, barbeque bologna, and hot dogs. Other main course items included baked beans, French roasted potatoes, chips with homemade guacamole dip, and coleslaw. For dessert, guests had the choice of chocolate covered strawberries, strawberry trifle, lemon meringue tartlets, and chocolate chip cookies. Water and iced tea were served as beverages.
