Sep 13, 2016 - Union’s Delta-Psi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta conducted its fall plenary meeting on September 13, 2016. The gathering began with the initiation of Luke Adkins and Katherine Cheshire into the society. Vice President Kathryn Mitchell led the induction ceremony and President Jordan Sellers presented the certificates of membership. Dr. Stephen Carls, the chapter’s faculty sponsor, concluded this part of the meeting by reading a letter of congratulations from Dr. Graydon Tunstall, the executive director of Phi Alpha Theta.
Sellers led the business portion of the gathering. She announced the Delta-Psi chapter’s fall schedule of activities, including: volunteer work at the “Racing So They Can Ride” 5k and 10k races on September 17; the Carls-Schwerdfeger History Lectureship on October 3; a homemade pizza party on October 21; a community service project as a part of Union’s Campus and Community Day on November 1; the Tennessee Great War Commission’s Jackson Symposium on November 4-5; and the Phi Alpha Theta/ History Department French Christmas Dinner on December 10. Carls handed out brochures about the history department as well as materials for the history lectureship and Great War symposium. Carls also talked about paper prizes and scholarships that the Phi Alpha Theta national office offers, and he announced that the society’s 2018 biennial convention would take place in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Attendees enjoyed refreshments and conversation after the meeting ended.
