Delta-Psi Chapter Presents Phi Alpha Theta Best Chapter Award Check to Library

Dec 1, 2016 - Union’s Delta-Psi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society presented a $250 check that was a part of its 2016 national Best Chapter Award prize to the Logos Library on December 1, 2016. The prize money paid for 12 history books that chapter members selected and that the library then ordered. Delta-Psi President Jordan Sellers gave the check to Library Director Melissa Moore in a special ceremony that Vice President Kathryn Mitchell, Secretary Seth Reid, and Faculty Advisor Dr. Stephen Carls also attended.

The 12 history books that the chapter purchased were on display at the presentation ceremony, and they included: The World Reimagined: Americans and Human Rights in the Twentieth Century by Mark Philip Bradley; Machiavelli: A Portrait by Christopher S. Celenza; Reformations: The Early Modern World, 1450-1650 by Carlos M. N. Eire; Charlemagne by Johannes Fried; Herbert Hoover: A Life by Glen Jeansonne; Elusive Alliance: The German Occupation of Poland in World War I by Jesse Kauffman; Accidental State: Chiang Kai-shek, the United States, and the Making of Taiwan by Hsiao-Ting Lin; John Adams and the Fear of American Oligarchy by Luke Mayville; The War on Alcohol: Prohibition and the Rise of the American State by Lisa McGirr; Selling Hitler: Propaganda and the Nazi Brand by Nicholas O’Shaughnessy; Thundersticks: Firearms and the Violent Transformation of Native America by David J. Silverman; and The Great Departure: Mass Migration from Eastern Europe and the Making of the Free World by Tara Zahra.

The 2016 Best Chapter Award was the 14th straight year that the Delta-Psi chapter has received this high honor. In all, the chapter has contributed more than $3600 for the purchase history books for Union University’s library since 2003.
