Phi Alpha Theta Sponsors End-of-Semester French Christmas Dinner

Dec 10, 2016 - The Delta-Psi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta sponsored its 14th annual French Christmas dinner for history department faculty members, spouses, and students at Dr. Stephen Carls’s home on December 10, 2016. The department gave special recognition to graduating history majors Luke Adkins and Byron Elam. Phi Alpha Theta member Priscilla Porter, a theater major, provided a special program with acted-out excerpts from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and Don Zolidis’s Mall Santa Saves the Day. Twenty-five people attended the dinner.

The dinner menu consisted of several courses. The meal began with celery root/apple soup. The main course was beef Burgundy (boeuf bourgignon) and mashed potatoes (pommes mousseline). A tossed salad and an assortment of cheeses came next. The final touch was four desserts: tiramisu (lady fingers soaked in coffee, covered with a layer of vanilla cream, and topped with chocolate powder), a raspberry trifle (Charlotte B la framboise), a lemon yule log cake (bûche de noël au citron), and crème brûlée (a dessert with a rich vanilla custard base capped by caramelized sugar).
