Dec 9, 2017 - The history department and the Delta-Psi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta co-sponsored the fourteenth annual French Christmas dinner at Dr. Stephen Carls’s home on December 9, 2017. Twenty-two people attended the event, during which Carls recognized history major Seth Reid’s successful defense of his history honors thesis and Phi Alpha Theta member Marylee Barker’s recent engagement to Brayden Williams, a student at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Carls also read passages from Samuel Pepys Diary that described a couple of English Christmases in the 1660s.
The French meal consisted of several courses. The first course was cream of pumpkin soup with ginger. The main course consisted of pork tenderloin, buttered mashed potatoes, and cabbage gratin. A green salad was then served along with an assortment of five cheeses and French bread. There were four desserts, including: a linzer torte, a lemon yule-log cake, a raspberry charlotte, and crème brûlée. The meal ended with coffee and tea.
