Feb 27, 2018 - Seven history students were inducted into Union’s Delta-Psi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society at its spring plenary meeting on February 27, 2018. The students included Katie Allison, Leah Atkins, Alex Barger, Lauren Butler, Megan Ledbetter, Ali Renckens, and Luke Sower. Chapter Vice President Katherine Cheshire conducted the initiation. Fourteen faculty and students, counting the inductees, were at the ceremony.
Delta-Psi President Seth Reid led the business meeting. The first agenda item was the election of the chapter’s 2018-2019 officers, which produced the following results: Lauren Butler, president; Luke Sower, vice president; Megan Ledbetter, secretary; Katie Allison, senator; and Alex Barger, senator. Reid then recounted his experiences at the Phi Alpha Theta Biennial Convention in New Orleans, emphasizing the friendships he made and the sites he visited. Dr. Stephen Carls talked about the upcoming Arkansas Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference at the University of Arkansas – Monticello, where four Delta-Psi chapter members will present papers. Reid and Carls also highlighted several other upcoming chapter-related events, such as the Phi Alpha Theta T-shirt Spirit Day on March 12, the history club-sponsored awards banquet on May 3, and the 26th Annual Phi Alpha Theta/History Department Cookout on May 11.
The meeting ended with refreshments consisting of homemade chocolate chip cookie bars, Coca Cola, Sprite, and bottled water.
