Union Students Present Papers at Arkansas Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference

Apr 7, 2018 - Four Union University students presented papers at the Arkansas Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference at the University of Arkansas at Monticello on April 7, 2018. Drs. Henry Allen and Stephen Carls accompanied them on the trip.

The four students and their paper titles were: Leah Atkins, “Poisonous Women of Ancient Rome: A Literal and Metaphorical Contaminant”; Lauren Butler, “How Instrumental Were Covert Deception Operations to Allied Success in World War II?”; Alexandria Renckens, “From the Coalbin to the Diamond: How Baseball Changed America’s Most Segregated City”; and Luke Sower, “Cortés’ Dream to Regain the Glory of the Aztec Capital.”

In the paper competition at the conference, Sower won first place overall, and Leah Atkins placed third. Both students were recognized with prizes.

Carls coordinated the trip and took photos at the conference, while Allen chaired a panel titled “Race and the Construction of Community.”
