Nov 29, 2018 - The Delta-Psi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society presented a $250 check to Union University’s Library in the Logos on November 29, 2018. Chapter President Lauren Butler, Vice President Luke Sower, Faculty Advisor Dr. Stephen Carls, and Library Director Melissa Moore attended the ceremony at which Butler gave the check to Moore. The $250 was part of the prize that the chapter received for winning a 2018 Phi Alpha Theta Best Chapter Award. Chapter members selected the books that the library bought with the prize money.

The 11 books purchased included:

• Standing in Their Own Light: African American Patriots in the American Revolution by Judith L. Van Buskirk;
• Breaking White Supremacy: Martin Luther King Jr. and the Black Social Gospel by Gary Dorrien;
• Crimes Unspoken: The Rape of German Women at the End of the Second World War by Miriam Gebhardt;
• Crusade and Jihad: The Thousand-Year War between the Muslim World and the Global North by William Polk;
• Gorbachev: His Life and Times by William Taubman;
• Isabella of Castile: Europe’s First Great Queen by Giles Tremlett;
• Islamism: What It Means for the Middle East and the World by Tarek Osman;
• Margaret Thatcher: The Honorary Jew – How Britain’s Jews Helped Shape the Iron Lady and Her Beliefs by Robert Philpot;
• Stormtroopers: A New History of Hitler’s Brownshirts by Daniel Siemens;
• We Are the Change We Seek: The Speeches of Barack Obama edited by E. J. Dionne Jr. and Joy Ann Reid; and
• Why I’m No Longer Talking about Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge.
