Phi Alpha Theta Sponsors 27th Annual History Cookout

May 11, 2019 - The 27th Annual Phi Alpha Theta/History Department Cookout took place at Dr. Stephen Carls’s home on May 11, 2019. Sponsored by Union’s Delta-Psi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the cookout celebrated the end of the school year and included a program that recognized graduating history students and a chapter officer. Twenty people attended the event.

During the post-dinner program, Carls recognized all graduating history majors and Phi Alpha Theta members, though most were unable to attend the cookout. They included Marylee Barker, Lauren Butler, William Choate, Brianna Hammond, and Avery Parks. Choate accepted his graduation award bag at the cookout. Carls also gave three awards to Delta-Psi Chapter Vice President Luke Sower: the second-place prize in the Dr. James Alex Baggett History Research Paper Competition; a certificate of commendation and a book for his paper presentation at the Tennessee Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference at Belmont University; and a certificate of appreciation for his work as the Delta-Psi chapter vice president in 2018-2019.

The meal consisted of hot dogs, oven-roasted flank steak, tortilla chips and homemade guacamole dip, roasted potatoes, a tossed salad, vanilla ice cream, fresh Tennessee-grown strawberries, and homemade chocolate-covered cheesecake.
