Choral Concert: Missa brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo

“Missa brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo” by Franz J. Haydn, and other Choral Works, featuring Union University Singers and the Union University String Ensemble with guest, University School of Jackson. Dr. Terry McRoberts will be featured on the organ.

“Missa brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo” was written in 1775. It is sometimes known as the "Kleine Orgelmesse" ("Little Organ Mass") because of the extensive organ solo in the Benedictus. This mass is divided into six movements altogether.

Other choral works this evening will include “Psalm 23” by Z. Randall Stroope, “Give Me Your Starts To Hold” arranged by Richard Waters, and “i carry your heart with me” by David Dickau, performed by University School of Jackson. Union’s Voices of Proclamation and University School of Jackson will perform “Christ the Appletree” arranged by Stanford Scriven. Union University Singers will perform “Jubilate Deo” by Benjamin Britten, “RUTLAND” by William Billings, and “Abendleid” Op. 69, No. 3 by Josef Rheinberger, and “Way Over in Beulah Lan’” arranged by Stacey V. Gibbs. The last selection of the evening will be “My Soul’s Been Anchored” arranged by Moses Hogan, performed by all choirs.

This concert is free and open to the public. Doors open at 2:30 p.m.
