Carls-Schwerdfeger Lecture: Jeremy Black

Dr. Jeremy Black, Professor of History at the University of Exeter in England, will speak on “Why the Allies Won World War II” at the Twelfth Annual Carls-Schwerdfeger History Lectureship on Thursday, October 30, at 7:15 p.m. in the G. M. Savage Memorial Chapel at Union University. He will do a book signing near Union Station afterwards. His evening lecture is free and open to the general public.
He will also give a free lecture to the Union community in Harvey Hall at 1:40 p.m. that day on “War, Technology, and the Rise of the West: 1450-2008 Reconsidered.” Dr. Black is the author of more than 70 books, including The Holocaust (2008); George III: America’s Last King (2006); The Age of Total War, 1860-1945 (2006); Culture in Eighteenth-Century England: A Subject for Taste (2005); World War II: A Military History (2003); and, America as a Military Power, 1775-1865 (2002). He is a member of the Order of the British Empire and a Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute in Philadelphia.
