MLK Day of Service

Union University is once again hosting our annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 18, 2010. Union is offering several opportunities for Union students, faculty and staff to participate in a day of service in our community.

Opportunities are as follows:

Jackson Campus: Birth Choice Research Clinic - This team will spend 2-3 hours Monday afternoon around 2:00pm sorting materials for Birth Choice. Team Leader: Ema Vancleave, Female Quads Resident Director - evanclea@uu.edu (Since space is limited, please contact Ema directly if interested in serving at this location.)

Jackson Campus: The Care Center - This project is available for volunteers on Monday at 2:30pm. This center is devoted to helping women in the Jackson area and taking them in if the need arises. The Care Center always welcomes Union students to come help them at their facilities. Team Leader: Dr. Kimberly Thornbury, Vice President for Student Services/Dean of Students. Germantown Campus: The Bent Tree Apartment Complex, Whitehaven area, Memphis - This service project will take place throughout the day at the Bent Tree Apartments in the Whitehaven area (3471 Briarpark Drive West). The day will begin with a tribute service from 10:00am until 11:00am that will conclude with the Lord’s Supper. This service will take place at Hope Fellowship Church which is located near the apartments. Following the service, students and faculty will be involved in health screenings and children’s work throughout the afternoon.
