Martin Luther King Jr. Service Day
January 20, 2003
Union University
This year Union University is celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 20, by encouraging employees and students to serve the local community in a tangible way. Instead of "taking the day off," spending time in service to others is an appropriate way to honor the spirit of Dr. King's life and work. One of the unique strengths of the Union community is that members of our community can be seen on most any day serving others in many different contexts throughout the West Tennessee community. On January 20, we will serve others remembering the legacy of one who made such a tremendous difference in communities across the nation.
Campus Ministries has coordinated three local venues through which Union employees and students will have the opportunity to provide community service on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (see below). If you decide to observe this day in service at one of the following places, please coordinate your excused absence from Union with your supervisor and register your involvement through Mrs. Suzanne Mosley in the campus ministries office (ext. 5244). You will be able to decide your place of service, receive instructions about specific plans for the day, and Campus Ministries will coordinate Union's participation at each site. I encourage your participation and look forward to this day of service.
