March 13–15, 2018 - Ronald K. Rittgers
We are very pleased to announce our Scholar-in-Residence for 2018 will be Ronald K. Rittgers. Dr. Rittgers is Professor of History and Theology at Valparaiso University, where he holds the Erich Markel Chair in German Reformation Studies.
Dr. Rittgers earned his Bachelors degree from Wheaton, a Masters in Theological Studies from Regent College, and his doctorate from Harvard. He is the author of two books on pastoral theology and practice in the Reformation: The Reformation of the Keys: Confession, Conscience, and Authority in Sixteenth-Century Germany (Harvard, 2004) and The Reformation of Suffering: Pastoral Theology and Lay Piety in Late Medieval and Early Modern Germany (Oxford, 2012). He is also the editor of the Hebrews and James volume in the Reformation Commentary on Scripture series (IVP).
Dr. Rittgers has received research grants from the German Academic Exchange Service, the Lilly Endowment, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel, Germany. He was recently elected to the presidency of the American Society of Church History, the oldest and most prestigious scholarly organization for historians of Christianity in North America.
