JACKSON, Tenn.June 5, 2015 — George Guthrie, the Benjamin W. Perry Professor of Bible at Union University, recently released a commentary on 2 Corinthians part of the award-winning Baker Exegetical Commentary Series.

“The Baker Exegetical Commentary Series combines a high level of scholarship with addressing practical issues of ministry in the modern world,” Guthrie said. “This commentary offers an extensive introduction to 2 Corinthians, begins with a creative fictional narrative based on what we know of Corinth at the time Paul ministered there and offers fresh interpretive insights at a number of points.”

Guthrie, a well-known New Testament scholar, is the author of numerous books and articles, including commentaries on Hebrews and James. He was a translator or consultant on four Bible translation projects.

Guthrie says he “has a heart for the church.” In recent years, he has led a biblical literacy initiative called “Read the Bible for Life,” which encourages churches to train people in how to read the Bible more effectively.

Guthrie holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and has been teaching at Union for 24 years.

The commentary is available at LifeWay Christian Stores or at online retailers such as Amazon.com.
