Award-winning military historian to speak at Union’s 25th annual Carls-Schwerdfeger History Lecture

JACKSON, Tenn.Oct. 20, 2022 — Michael S. Neiberg, professor of history and chair of war studies at the United States Army War College, will serve as the 25th annual Carls-Schwerdfeger History lecturer on Oct. 24 at Union University.

Neiberg will host two lectures on campus. He will begin at 2 p.m. in Union’s Carl Grant Events Center discussing “Reconstructing Europe after World War I: The Paris Peace Conference of 1919.” Neiberg will conclude with “Perilous Times: America’s Search for Security after the Fall of France in World War II” at 7:15 p.m. in the G. M. Savage Memorial Chapel.

Neiberg has published over 20 books on modern warfare, which has led him to receive numerous honors, including the Harry S. Truman Book Award for his work, “Potsdam: The End of World War II and the Remaking of Europe,” and the Distinguished Book Award from the Society for Military History for his book, “When France Fell: The Vichy Crisis and the Fate of the Anglo-American Alliance.”

In addition to his books, Neiberg has also been recognized as an Outstanding Academy Educator Award from the United States Air Force Academy and a Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute.

Prior to teaching at the United States Army War College, Neiberg taught at the United States Air Force Academy and the University of Southern Mississippi after receiving his doctorate in history at Carnegie Mellon University.
