Skrmetti to speak at Union’s Constitution Day lecture

JACKSON, Tenn.Sept. 4, 2025 — Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti will deliver Union University’s annual Constitution Day lecture Sept. 17 in the Carl Grant Events Center.

Skrmetti began an eight-year term as attorney general in 2022. Prior to his current role, he served as chief counsel to Gov. Bill Lee and as chief deputy attorney general to his predecessor, Tennessee Attorney General Herbert Slatery.

He earned degrees from George Washington University, the University of Oxford and Harvard Law School.

Skrmetti will speak on “The American Constitution and the Continuing Role of the States” at 4 p.m. His lecture will cover the structure of the Constitution, limits on judicial and legislative authority and the interplay between the Constitution and legislation.

The event is free and open to the public.
